Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC, the Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia, has named Jessica in the prestigious Australia Day Honours list, being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division for service to sailing and to youth through the achievement of sailing solo and unassisted around the world, and also as a role model for young Australians.

Jessica will take on a more relaxing role when she returns to Tasmania in April during Easter, when she sails as one of the crew aboard the 14 metre catamaran MTA Big Wave Rider, skippered by Bruce Arms, who was part of Jessica’s shore team during her solo unassisted circumnavigation.

Jessica has led the youngest crew ever to contest the Rolex Sydney to Hobart, into second place in the Sydney 38 One Design division and 37th overall. The Young Australian of the Year, was dunked in the Derwent River by UK crew member Pete Woodward at the completion of the race.
