Jessica to Crew on Big Wave Rider in 2012 Three Peaks Race

20-Jan-2012

Jessica will take on a more relaxing role when she returns to Tasmania in April during Easter, when she sails as one of the crew aboard the 14 metre catamaran MTA Big Wave Rider, skippered by Bruce Arms, who was part of Jessica’s shore team during her solo unassisted circumnavigation.

The popular event has been contested annually since 1989 is a unique team competition comprising three short-handed offshore sailing legs totalling 335 nautical miles, and three mountain running legs totalling 133 kilometres with an overall ascent of 2646 metres. During the three days of racing competitors will travel through some of Tasmania’s most scenic coastline.

Jessica said the event should be a lot of fun and pleased she will be on the water, not the land.

“The Three Peaks is a great event that has been on my 'to-do' list for a while. So I'm looking forward to getting back down to Tasmania in April and doing my first race with my friends Bruce and Suzanne Arms on MTA Big Wave Rider – having mountain runners as part of our team will be a unique experience. Thankfully I'm a sailor!” said Jessica.

“Also, a big thank you to MTA for sponsoring the team - it should be a lot of fun.”

The 2012 race starts at 2pm on Good Friday, April 6th at Beauty Point in Northern Tasmania.
